Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to offer a warm welcome to all returning families in addition to all of our new families. I hope everyone had a restful summer and are now energized for the 2019-20 school year.

Last year we began to introduce “The Growth Mindset” by Carol Dweck.  While many students get frustrated by what they can’t do in regards to concepts, strategies and skills, the Growth Mindset changes their focus to a positive approach. Growth Mindset helps students think about failure as part of learning and that patience and hard work will give them the approach that they haven’t accomplished it “yet.”  Learning, discovering and creating require time, effort and patience.  Instead of saying, “I’m no good at math,” they learn to say things like “I haven’t learned all my multiplication facts, yet. But I’m going to keep practicing with my mom in the evenings to learn them all.”  This mindset is not only good for students, but also is very applicable to adults.  Improving your child’s learning experience is a team effort and is going to require great communication between home and school.

I urge you to maintain regular communication with teachers to monitor your child’s progress. It is always better to be proactive in solving problems in order to target your child’s specific needs.  Please do not wait until progress reports and report cards are distributed to communicate with your child’s teacher. Although Parent-Teacher Conferences are in October, please feel free to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher at any time.

Educating our children is vital to their future.  If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please feel free to call us at 463-2134, e-mail at /, or schedule an appointment to meet. We are going to have a great year and look forward to seeing each of you.
