West Weekly Update: Busy Week Ahead, Celebrations, and Important Reminders

Posted Date: 04/24/26 (03:59 PM)

Dear West Elementary Families,

We have a very busy week ahead at West Elementary, and we are excited to share several important events and updates with you.

Fourth grade will be hosting their Living Museum, where students will honor historical figures through engaging presentations. Our Band, Orchestra, and Choir will perform concerts on April 28 at 9:30 AM and 6:30 PM. For the morning performance, parents are asked to please park on State Street. We are also excited for our first annual Fifth Grade Field Day on April 30. Parents are invited to attend, with gates opening at 9:00 AM. Please park on State Street and enter through the main stadium gates, not the rear parking lot.

April Tier One Updates
Our April Referral-Free Reward is Extra Recess. So far, 57 out of 433 students have received a referral this month. So, 87% of our students are referral free. We would like this number to be higher if possible. Please talk to. your child about making responsible, respectful, and safe choices at school.

Weekly Shout Outs
We are proud to celebrate strong academic efforts across our school.

Third Grade
Mrs. Jones’ class averaged a 70% on their Unit 4 math assessment. This unit focused on understanding fractions. Students are learning that fractions represent equal parts of a whole. For example, when something is divided into equal pieces, each piece is a fraction, and students are also learning how to compare and explain different fractions. This is challenging work, and we are proud of their growth.

Fourth Grade
Mrs. Goeken’s class averaged 75% on their assessment covering measurement concepts such as length, liquid volume, mass, and weight. Even more impressive, 16 students scored above 80%, which we consider meeting grade-level proficiency. This means students are demonstrating a strong understanding of how to measure and solve real-world problems using these concepts.

At West Elementary, we define grade-level proficiency as scoring 80% or higher on rigorous, standards-aligned assessments. We celebrate students and classes who reach this level because it reflects deep understanding.
